University Congregational Housing Association 2010 Annual Report

The University Congregational Housing Association has been an active affiliate of University Congregational United Church of Christ since 1983.  UCHA is a 501c3 non-profit formed as a mission outreach for UCUCC.  UCHA's purpose is to provide and assist others in providing housing for socially and economically disadvantaged individuals and families.

In 2010 UCHA embarked on a new mission:  to create a Home for Youth to serve young adults who are aging out of foster care or are homeless.  This project, led by Gail Winberg and Kathy Elias, is in partnership with the YMCA's Young Adult Services program for on-site support and case management services.

UCHA owns and manages three affordable housing properties:  Sortun Court (10 year celebration in Spring 2010), a sixteen unit apartment building for families at or below 50% of median income; The Boathouse, a six unit apartment building affordable for families; and The Lin House, a three bedroom home for persons living with mental health issues and in partnership with Community Psychiatric Clinic.  Properties Committee includes Claudia Patton, Susan Heck, John Davis and Gail Winberg.

Through the generous donations of our greater community, UCHA also supported Church of Mary Magdalene and Mary's Place, Home Step and Elizabeth Gregory Home.

Support for UCHA's new Home for Youth effort as well as ongoing support of other non-profits was made possible through the heartfelt contributions from supporters.  We secured over $40,000 for our Home for Youth Project thru our annual fundraising dinner in March 2010, the Harvest Home Tea hosted by Evelyn Crichton, and other fundraising efforts.
